Music as Medicine: the key of C major for energetic healing to find your centre and balance.

Sound and frequency are undoubtedly very powerful energy balancing and healing therapies, as they can take the human spirit to different states of consciousness. Sound healing is beginning to really come into its own at the moment in London - sound bath ceremony with yoga and meditation. Music is central to my own meditation and healing work, and as I delve deeper into my research on the effects of music as a form of meditation, I can see that everyday music offers an easy and accessible form of healing that is very much untapped.

Sound healing is in fact thousands of years old. The Om symbol from Hinduism that we are also familiar with seeing in yoga and meditation studios, is the symbol of a sacred sound, syllable, mantra. Om is one of the most important symbols because it is believed that the world was first created through sound - that the first vibration, the Om, is infinite consciousness from which stemmed growth of all beings. In meditation, the vibration from chanting its three syllables call our mind, body and spirit home. Ahh Oooo Mmm.

Music is therefore closely linked to energetic healing through higher levels of consciousness, and this is the space we allow ourselves to explore in all types of meditation. Most meditation focuses on balancing the chakra system.

Within chakra meditation practices, each chakra has had an associated Key. Starting at the base or root chakra with C, then following the keys upwards with each of the 7 main chakras - C,D,E,F,G,A,B. Which means that each key balances and heals different aspects of the energetic body.

This use of healing is very evident with Himalayan singing bowls. In holistic health, Tibetan singing bowls are used for deep relaxation and muscle regeneration, to relieve pain in the joints, muscles and shoulders, to ease pain related to sciatica, the digestive system, headaches and migraine or spine injuries, to improve circulation, release tensions or blockages, to open the energy flow, eliminate toxins from the body. When we relax with the sounds of Tibetan bowls or the gong, our concentration improves and our emotional tensions and blockages are eased. Sound with its vibrations can ease mental or emotional pain (low self-esteem, worries, fear, anger, anxiety, depression, insomnia). Used to help children with hyperactive disorders, also sound is thought to stimulate the immune system.

In the realm of music, certain frequencies possess the ability to create a sense of calm, balance, and healing within us. One of these is the key of C major. Known for its grounding and stabilising qualities, C major can be used as a powerful tool for promoting wellness and relaxation through songs and musical compositions.

The key of C major resonates at a frequency associated with feelings of stability, harmony, and clarity. It serves as a musical anchor, providing a strong foundation for melodies and harmonies to unfold. When we listen to or play music in C major, our bodies and minds respond to this inherent stability, creating a sense of calm and centeredness within us.

Using C major as a focal point during meditation or relaxation exercises can enhance their therapeutic effects. As we immerse ourselves in the soothing vibrations of C major, our breathing slows, our heart rate becomes more regular, and our stress levels decrease. This musical frequency has the power to quiet our racing thoughts and bring us into a state of inner peace.

Incorporating C major into our daily lives can be as simple as listening to songs or compositions written in this key. Whether it's classical music, pop songs, or whatever genre, they can all contribute to our overall well-being. Consider creating a playlist of tunes in certain keys to accompany your intentions in meditation sessions.

I often meditate by listening to a song or piece of music in a certain key in order to rebalance my energetic body in line with the healing aspects of the key.

Below are some tunes in the key of C to ground/ centre by balancing the stabilising root chakra through the powerful grounding energy of Mother Earth. Remember that mediation can bring your energy up or down depending on your emotional needs. It’s not all about becoming calm, you can use meditation to lift your energy levels, or connect with other emotions. Grounding doesn’t necessarily mean bringing your energy down, it can also bring you up energetically higher, yet stable and centred. Ground and be calm, be free, be joyful!

As you begin to breath in the frequency of music, listen to and consider the lyrics of songs - you’ll be surprised how many of the words align with the energetic feeling of the key they’re written in.

For bringing your energy down into a calm form of grounding in the Key of C Major ; Fleetwood mac ‘Dreams’ . The Beatles ‘let it be’. Ben E. King ‘stand by me’ Kings of Leon ‘use somebody’. Alexandra Burke ‘ Hallelujah’ . Bill Withers ‘Lean on me’. Or a whole host of classical music.

When you need to go Up energetically whilst stabilising, grounding and finding your centre using the key of C Major:

Lady Gaga ‘marry the night’ will ground you whilst lifting your mood higher energetically, or Kelly Clarkson ‘ Stronger. Van Halen ‘why can’t this be love’ .

And failing that there’s: Amy Winehouse’ Rehab’ ! Rehab is always there if you really need it!
